An interview with Alex Adamou was published in the Greek national newspaper, TO BHMA, by its science editor Tassos Kafantaris. Starting with Ole Peters’ and Murray Gell-Mann’s recent paper on Evaluating gambles using dynamics, Alex gave a tour of his and Ole’s research at LML into the mathematical foundations of modern economic theory. The central theme was that a capitalistic economy, in which wealth evolves more or less multiplicatively, is poorly described by models which do not account for the difference between averages over time and over parallel systems (“non-ergodicity”). Alex used this idea to hint at better formulations for a wide range of economic issues – such as market efficiency, inequality, and cooperation – about which Ole and he have written previously.
