The fourth Science on Screen event in collaboration with the Barbican was held on Tuesday, 13 October. Ole Peters introduced Doyne Farmer to a delightfully large audience in cinema 1. Tarkovsky’s 3-hour masterpiece was shown on 35mm film for the full experience. Having returned from the zona, Doyne then led a questions-and-more-questions session — which world is weirder, the zona or the sepia-shot world of every-day life? What is the zona and why are we drawn to it? What are the scientist and the artist searching for, and have they perhaps misunderstood the quest, as a last-minute piece to camera by the stalker’s wife suggests.
