Relaxation of many-particle systems with long-range interactions

In this talk I will review the dynamics of many particle systems interacting via additive long-range forces of the form 1/r^alpha. I will discuss the main problematics arising in the theromodynamical description of such systems and their implications in the case of gravitational forces in the frame of dissipationalss collapse. By means of N-body simulations, I show that the main features of relaxed gravitational systems hold also for the end products of dissipationless collapses with 1/r^alpha forces.
